Day in the Life of a Sports Photographer

So this story begins a couple of years ago.

I have always wanted to photograph college sports - specifically football. When I started this journey with the local high school about 7-8 years ago now, I thought it would be fun to try and grow and capture the story and atmosphere of game day on campus.

When my wife posed a question one day of "what is one thing you still want to do that you haven't yet?", this was what I had told her I wanted to do. Just thought it would be fun - but there was so much work to do before submitting the question out in to the world. Curate a gallery, build out content that programs could look at, etc. The list seemed daunting.

When my birthday rolled around, I was presented with a large envelope with letters from a couple of schools who had agreed to have me come and photograph game day on campus. Without me knowing, my wife had sent out emails asking colleges about the opportunity. One campus in particular had a connection to our high school and was aware of my work. So they said that they'd love to have me come to campus. So that journey started.

This video is born out of an idea that one of my sons suggested. A way to show people how much goes in to photographing sports.

Over the course of three days, I photographed high school boys soccer, football and a Winona State University football game.

To say I had a blast is an understatement. I cannot wait to do it all over again. Over 8 hours in the car during those three days and it was still all worth it. And at the end of the day, I got a chance to see my oldest while he was at college.
